Big and almost unknown, what an array of scenics the Big Hole Valley has! From the largest peaks of the Bitterroot Range to the even bigger mountains of the Anaconda-Pintlar Wilderness to the north, this valley has got it. The locals know that too. They might even be real interested in not losing one of the last remaining true bastions of Montana's "Last, Best Place" phrase. I could be wrong about that last statement and the impression I have gotten over the years. One thing is certain; this neighborhood in Montana has something akin to greatness. It is, in my opinion what makes Montana so Montana.
To the west is the Southern Bitterroot Range. Like the Pintlars, it has in its occupancy the Continental Divide and of course, the Continental Divide Trail (CDT).
Come back to this page during the winter of 2008-2009 as I go through this area and more in an attempt to cover the 1000 miles (approximate) of Montana’s share of the CDT. Updates, while sparse, will happen.
