In a 36 day period, spread out with six trips from January 26th through May 10th, 2006, I force fed myself with a winterized Glacier National Park in Montana.

The inspiration for the trips began with a visit to a magazine editor's office, where I proposed a winter crossing of the great Bob Marshall Wilderness. She ho-hummed, then asked if I might be interested in stepping up to a trip across Glacier instead. Well yikes and several months later, the trips began!

Had I known the hardships to come I would . . . well I would have changed a few items and gone on with the trips. Thomas Edison found over 2000 ways of how not to make a light bulb. I found five trips on how not to cross Glacier National Park during the winter. In the process the dangers were ongoing with incidents such as breaking through the ice on Belly River with a temperature dropping to below 0° Fahrenheit. Twice, including on the sixth trip I almost perished.

In the end I crossed Glacier at Ahern Pass. During that 90 day period I photographed thousands of scenes, coming out of the winterized park with pictures that probably only exist with me.
