Goat Peaks Basin Winter

March 29th to April 2nd, 2007

West Goat Peak, Anaconda-Pintlar Wilderness, MontanaIf it had been my intention to bite off more than I could chew, then the trip to Goat Peaks was a great success. On the other hand, if 1000 winter photos of an incredible neighborhood were my intent, then I am going to have to do a return trip. With that said, I can now say I have two trips under my belt since July, 2006 into the Goat Peaks basin area when I was not on top of my game. On each trip I made mistakes and/or ran into conditions that were not fit for the type of photography I like. So for that reason I will have to return for a repeat shoot. The errors just keep pouring in around the Goat Peaks area.

Don’t get me wrong, those five days onto the basin of Goat Peaks and Saddle Mountain was/is memorable. I just didn't get done what had been my intention, namely to bag all three peaks. Actually I managed to get not even one done (Please take note that I am still alive). But I did get into the bowl, where I planted myself for two winter weathered days. I also got to firm up my route on a winter summit of the three peaks.

Weather is a partner in all of my photography. Sometimes it is a lousy buddy. Thus on this trip weather informed me that I was there to scout out the area for the so-called "real photo trip". With that in mind, I will be returning for another go at a summit of these three peaks in the Anaconda-Pintler winter wilderness. In the meantime click here to see the photo album from that bad photo trip.
