My visits into Glacier National Park started during the winter of 2006. I visited the area around Belly River Ranger Station first. That is not a big deal during the non-winter months, an easy six-mile dayhike, if you will. Not so during the winter. Every mile is spendy, coupled with a total of 9 miles from the "winter trailhead". That parking lot is located 3 miles south of the customs station located on the Canadian border of Chief Mountain Highway.
The first trip was easy, when compared to the other trips. Trip Two I almost lost my life, as I began the process of being hardened for what was yet to come.
By the time winter was over I had taken 6 trips and almost lost my life at least twice, for a total of 36 nights spent in the Park.
Since then I have taken more trips into Glacier, with more to come. One was in June, giving my first real eyeball of Glacier during the non-winter months.
Here are my trips into the Park. Trips Two and Six are in eBook format (Adobe PDF, which most computers have preinstalled software already in them.)
Also in a first for me, excerpts from Trip Six were published in the Montana Magazine.
