On the Selway River inside the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness of Idaho and Montana, and just before the spring runoff began in earnest. After a night of rain in May, an early morning shroud of fog covered the river canyon. This photo was taken during a seven day through-hike in the river canyon. The U. S. Forest Service had only a week earlier plowed through the snowpack on the Nez Perce Pass along Montana and Idaho’s border, making it possible to get to the trailhead at Paradise Guard Station.
