In the Seven Lakes area of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness in Idaho and Montana, came an early winter dawn after the first winter storm of the season. On a cold clear morning in October such as this particular day, the temperature is always colder than the true winter months. At least that is the way it feels when crawling out of a warm sleeping bag in a tent, just after summer has ended. In reality the temperature probably didn’t get down to single digits. However, within thirty days the temperature may be feeling downright balmy as the thermometer reading barely rises above 0° Fahrenheit.
